The tomatoes went in early this year

Against every piece of advice I have been given, the seedlings are out three weeks ahead of schedule. The soil held its warmth through the last cold snap and I decided to trust it.

On keeping a weather diary

Six years of daily entries, and the only firm conclusion I can draw is that my memory of any given winter is almost entirely wrong.

Rebuilding the cold frame

The old one finally gave out. The replacement is heavier, uglier, and will almost certainly outlive me.
